Market consolidates ahead of credit policy

The markets consolidated and ended on an extremely flat note ahead of the credit policy. The Asian markets ended flat to positive. Shanghai Composite was up 3.5% while Nikkie ended on a flat note.
Among the major losers were FMCG, pharma, sugar and cement stocks. Strength was shown by power, metal and telecom stocks. In the results today, Bank of India and South Indian Bank came out with strong set of numbers.The BSE midcap and small cap indices also ended flat and the breath was marginally in favour of declines.
Tata Steel, Reliance Energy and Reliance Communication were the top gainers on indices.
ITC, HLL and Bajaj Auto were top losers on index.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,702.44 up 3 points or 0.06%.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 6,970.92 down 3 points or 0.05%.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was down 0.3% at 9,770.82. Bharat Elec, Carborundum, Dredging Cor, Lakshmi Machine, Crompton Greave closed lower.
The BSE Health Care Index was down 1.4% at 3,739.89. Sun Pharma, Biocon, Orchid Chemical, Nicholas Pirama l closed higher.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,802.91 down 0.6%. Mah and Mah, MICO, Bajaj Auto, Hind Motors, Maruti Udyog closed lower
The BSE Metal Index closed at 9,896.84 up 2%. Mah Seamless, Jindal Steel, Tata Steel, Jindal Saw advanced.
The BSE FMCG Index closed at 1,782.38 down 1.6%. P and G, ITC, HLL, Colgate closed lower.
BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 7,102.89 up 0.7%. Chennai Petro, ONGC, Reliance Natura, Reliance ended in green.
The BSE IT Index gained 0.2% at 5,062.86. Patni Computer, HCL Info, Hexaware Tech, Satyam closed higher
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7687.61 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 33404.76 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4111.37 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 45203.74 crore.
