It was yet another day of consolidation and the markets ended flat with positive bias. Smallcap outperformed the frontline indices and midcaps did well in pockets. BSE sector indices ended mixed. Metal index was up over 3.6% followed by capital goods index. However, bank, healthcare and IT ended in red.

On the stock front, Hindalco, Tata Steel and Bharti Airtel were top gainers on indices. Suzlon did well and ended higher but no such luck with Jet Airways. Oil stocks also ended weak.

Sensex closed down 6.30 points or 0.05% at 13183.24, and the Nifty up 14.50 points or 0.38% at 3862.65.

About 1505 shares have advanced, 1018 shares declined, and 62 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,517.06 up 55.55 points or 1.02%.

The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 6,711.51 up 54.77 points or 0.82%.

The BSE Bankex was down 0.7% at 6,552.92.UTI Bank, Kotak Mahindra, Bank of India, Union Bank moved downwards.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1.1% at 9,342.38. Gammon India, KEC Infrastructe, Thermax, Alstom Projects, Lakshmi Machine closed higher.

The BSE Health Care Index was down 0.7% at 3,677.38. Ranbaxy Labs, Dr Reddys Labs, Lupin, Cadila Health, Aurobindo Pharm closed lower.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,700.34 up 0.2%. Asahi India, Cummins, Exide Industrie, Amtek Auto ended higher.

The BSE Metal Index closed at 9,330.87 up 3.7%. Welspun Guj, NALCO, Sterlite Ind, Hindalco, Jindal Steel advanced higher.

The BSE FMCG Index closed flat at 1,811.58. Colgate, Tata Tea, Shaw Wallace, United Spirits, ITC closed higher.

BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 6,540.71 up 0.4%. Reliance Natura, GAIL, MRPL, Chennai Petro, ONGC ended in green.

The BSE IT Index lost 0.4% at 4,808.08. Moser Baer, I-Flex Solution, Satyam, HCL Tech, TCS closed lower.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7976.27 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 22877.88 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3943.4 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 34797.55 crore.
