Market ends in green

The markets ended higher even today after rallying hard yesterday on the back of no negative surprises from the credit policy. The initial trade was sluggish inline with rest of the Asia. However, the markets took a u turn post lunch and moved in the green. In the broader markets midcap and smallcap outperformed the frontline indices, which gave market reasonably good breadth. The turnover was also higher ahead of the F&O expiry day.

Rupee continued to rally and breached adding pressure to the technology stocks. In today's results, Idea came out with stellar set of numbers above street expectations. The star performer of the day was Ranbaxy up over 5% on the back of USFDA approval.

Except for IT and metal all other BSE sector indices closed in green. FMCG, pharma and oil & gas were among the major gainers followed by bank and auto.

Ranbaxy, Cipla, Hero Honda and grasim were the top gainers on indices.

Infosys, Tata Steel, Satyam, GAIL, Zee Entertainment were among the top losers.

Sensex is up 81.05 points or 0.57% at 14217.77, and the Nifty up 25.50 points or 0.62% at 4167.3.

About 1430 shares have advanced, 1043 shares declined, and 77 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,805.33 up 60 points or 1.6%.

The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 7,075.01 up 128 points or 1.9%.

The BSE Bankex was up 1% at 7,237.35. Bank of Baroda, Oriental Bank, IOB, Union Bank, Canara Bank moved upwards.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 0.09% at 9,803.17. KEC Infrastructure, HEG, SKF India, Praj Industries, Aban Offshore closed higher.

The BSE Health Care Index was up 1.06% at 3,725.57. Cipla, Ranbaxy Labs, Matrix Lab, Orchid Chemical closed higher.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,941.80 up 1.2%. TVS Motor, Ashok Leyland, Hero Honda, Tube Investment, Sundram surged.

The BSE Metal Index closed at 10,019.71 down 0.2%. JindalStainless, Sesa Goa, NALCO, Guj NRE Coke advanced higher.

The BSE IT Index lost 1.3% at 4,961.72. Hexaware Tech, I-Flex Solution, Wipro, HCL Info advanced.

BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 7,303.27 up 1.4%. ONGC, MRPL, Reliance Natura, BPCL, Reliance ended higher.

The BSE FMCG Index gained 2.5% at 1,837.71. Tata Tea, ITC, HLL, Colgate, Britannia closed higher.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 11063 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 44843.05 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 5183.09 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 61089.14 crore.

Mkts trading with marginal gains: FMCG, banks in focus

The markets have recovered and is trading with marginal gains on account of some buying seen in the FMCG, auto and banking stocks.

At 13.45 pm IST, the Sensex is up 33.05 points or 0.23% at 14169.77, and the Nifty up 5.95 points or 0.14% at 4147.75. About 1326 shares have advanced, 993 shares declined, and 94 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Ranbaxy Labs at Rs 367.10 up 5.14%, Cipla at Rs 244.60 up 2.21% and Hero Honda at Rs 673 up 1.81%.

Top losers on the Sensex are Tata Steel at Rs 568.50 down 1.83%, Infosys at Rs 2,023.05 down 1.71% and Satyam Rs 468 down 1.46%.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 209.80 up 1.28% from its previous close of Rs 207.15.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,584.25 up 0.24% from its previous close of Rs 1,580.45.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,023.05 down 1.71% from its previous close of Rs 2,058.15.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 158.95 up 1.6% from its previous close of Rs 156.45.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 262.40 up 0.9% from its previous close of Rs 260.05.
