Market ends with marginal loss; outperforms Asian peers

The markets ended in the negative territory with marginal losses tracking its Asian peers. Sell off was seen in
Nikkie was down over 1.5% and Hang Seng down nearly 2.5%. The European markets also opened in red
The markets picked up momentum in last hour of trade and the Nifty breached the 4,000 mark. The smallcap and midcap ended absolutely flat.
Sensex closed down 52.49 points or 0.38% at 13619.7, and the Nifty down 13.95 points or 0.35% at 3997.65.
About 1119 shares have advanced, 1343 shares declined, and 83 shares are unchanged.
Heavyweights like SBI, ITC and Reliance provided support at the lower levels. Select stocks from auto, IT, metal and oil & gas sector were among the losers.
The new listing Advanta listed with a bang and ended with a premium of 33%.
The BSE Midcap Index ended flat at 5,652.08.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended flat at 6,905.29.
The BSE Bankex was up 0.6% at 6,848.85. Andhra Bank, SBI, PNB, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank moved upwards.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 0.3% at 9,654.29. SKF India, ABB, Ingersoll Rand, Bharat Elec and Alstom Projects closed higher
The BSE Health Care Index was up 0.3% at 3,773.42. Pfizer, Sterling Bio, Aventis Pharma, Glenmark, Matrix Lab
closed higher.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,843.53 down 0.7%. Amtek Auto, Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor, Escorts, Mah and Mah closed lower
The BSE Metal Index closed at 9,373.42 down 0.4%. Hind Zinc, Welspun Guj, Tata Steel, Mah Seamless declined.
The BSE FMCG Index closed higher at 1,810.83 up 0.5%. Tata Tea, ITC, Dabur
BSE Oil and Gas Index closed flat at 6,863.97. Chennai Petro, IOC, ONGC, MRPL ended in red.
The BSE IT Index lost 1.5% at 4,974.83.Satyam, Infosys, Wipro, Hexaware Tech, HCL Tech closed lower.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 8184.03 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 33551.05 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4158.52 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 45893.6 crore.
