Mkt ends in green: Bank, auto stocks lead recovery

It was not a bad session for the markets as they ended in green after spending most of the day in negative terrain. Recovery came in during the final hour of trade on the back of buying seen in banking, auto and metal stocks. SBI ended the day with a gain of over 4%. The other gainers were Hero Honda, Tata Steel and Reliance Enery. However the IT stocks continued to sulk and the BSE index index ended in red.

The Sensex closed up 16.05 points or 0.12% at 13781.51, and the Nifty up 2.30 points or 0.06% at 4079.3.

About 1093 shares have advanced, 1387 shares declined, and 103 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,792.15 up 12.33 points or 0.21%.

The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 6,918.60 down 20.65 points or -0.30%.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,007.06 up 0.54%. Cummins, Hero Honda, Bharat Forge, Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor moved up.

The BSE Bankex was up 1.46% at 6,851.35. Federal Bank, SBI, Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and Oriental Bank ended positive.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 0.46% at 9,945.29. SKF India, Siemens, Praj Industries, Alfa Laval and Dredging Corp gained.

The BSE Health Care Index was up 0.09% at 3,700.56. Divis Labs, Aventis Pharma, Orchid Chemical, Nicholas Pirama and GlaxoSmithKline ended up.

The BSE Metal Index closed at 9,966.89 up 0.35%. Welspun Guj, JSW Steel, Tata Steel and Sterlite Ind closed in green.

The BSE FMCG Index lost 0.12% at 1,804.00. Nestle, Colgate, HLL and Shaw Wallace closed down.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index closed down 0.26% at 7,230.69. GAIL, ONGC, Reliance Natural and Chennai Petro ended negative.

The BSE IT Index slipped 0.92% at 4,887.62. Moser Baer, TCS, HCL Tech, Hexaware Tech and Infosys closed in red.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 8381.27crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 31001.77 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4081.17 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 43464.21crore.
