Markets close marginally lower after choppy trade; oil, metal, IT stocks drag

The markets closed marginally lower today after a choppy trading session, with oil, metal, & technology stocks among the key losers.

The Sensex ended at 14467 & the Nifty 4252 points, both marginaly down.

The BSE Oil & Gas index ended down 1%, Metals index down 0.7%, & the IT Sector index down 0.6%. Among index losers, BHEL was down 3%, Ambuja Cement 2.8%, & Sterlite down 2.3%.

Second rung shares were outperformers, as the NSE CNX Midcap & the BSE Small Cap indices closed a tad higher.

Market breadth was negative, as the NSE Advance Decline ratio was around 5:6. The total market turnover was Rs 52,487.3 cr vs Rs 57,339.75 cr on Thursday.

-ICICI Bank Jul adds 18.7 lakh shares in OI; rollover 38%
-Jindal Stainless Jul adds 11 lakh shares in OI; rollover 37%
-Satyam Jul adds 14.7 lakh shares in OI; rollover 37%
-Century Tex Jul adds 6.9 lakh shares in OI; rollover 37%
-Union Bank Jul adds 11.6 lakh shares in OI; rollover 35%
-Indusind Bank Jul adds 9.8 lakh shares in OI; rollover 31%
-ITC Jul adds 11.6 lakh shares in OI; rollover 30%

-BSE IT Index down 3%; Satyam, TCS down 4%, Infosys down 3%
-Midcap Gainers: Educomp, Alstom up 21%, HCC up 18%, BoI up 17%
-Midcap Gainers: GE Shipping, Voltas~Up 14%, IDFC Up 12%
-Real Estate Gainers: Ibulls Real, Orbit Corp up 11%
