Markets close marginally lower after choppy trade; oil, metal, IT stocks drag

The markets closed marginally lower today after a choppy trading session, with oil, metal, & technology stocks among the key losers.
The Sensex ended at 14467 & the Nifty 4252 points, both marginaly down.
The BSE Oil & Gas index ended down 1%, Metals index down 0.7%, & the IT Sector index down 0.6%. Among index losers, BHEL was down 3%, Ambuja Cement 2.8%, & Sterlite down 2.3%.
Second rung shares were outperformers, as the NSE CNX Midcap & the BSE Small Cap indices closed a tad higher.
Market breadth was negative, as the NSE Advance Decline ratio was around 5:6. The total market turnover was Rs 52,487.3 cr vs Rs 57,339.75 cr on Thursday.
