The markets rallied in late trade today on short-covering, with the Nifty closing above the 4200 level. It ended the day at 4214 points, up 1.6%. The Sensex ended up 1.5% at 14,295 points.

Bank, oil, & capital goods stocks were among the biggest gainers, while technology stocks ended in the red.

The BSE Oil & Gas index ended up 2.9%, Bankex up 2.7%, & Capital Goods index up 2.3%. The BSE IT Sector index ended down 1.1%.

Second rung shares were relative underperformers, as the NSE CNX Midcap index ended up 1.1% & the BSE Small Cap index up 0.6%.

Debutante Decolight Ceramics ended at Rs 44.65 vs the listing price of Rs 58.35.

Re-listed HTMT Global ended at Rs 583.15 vs the listing price of Rs 650. Re-listed Netflier Finco ended at Rs 55.65 vs the listing price of Rs 70 on BSE.

Market breadth was positive, as the NSE Advance Decline ratio was 4:3. The total market turnover was Rs 50,337.94 cr vs Rs 41,613.57 cr on Monday.
