Market ends flat: IT, bank, FMCG, oil & gas drag

The markets ended flat after seeing a solid start as profit booking was seen during the final hour of trade. Selling pressure was seen in IT, banking, FMCG and oil & gas stocks. However, capital goods, telecom, metal and realty stocks witnessed buying interest.

But on a weekly basis Sensex saw a good close up 1.8% and the BSE Midcap was up 1%.

Tata Steel, L&T and Bharti Airtel were among the top gainers on the indices.

Among the losers were ACC, Bajaj Auto, Cipla and HPCL.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,836.07 up 8 points or 0.12%.

Sensex was up 15.42 points or 0.10% at 15565.55, and the Nifty up 3.95 points or 0.09% at 4566.05.

About 884 shares have advanced, 1675 shares declined, and 52 shares are unchanged

The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 8,188.12 down 70.40 points or 0.85%.

The BSE Bankex was down 0.7% at 8,394.76. Oriental Bank, Bank of India, Allahabad Bank, Federal Bank, Andhra Bank moved downwards

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1.5% at 13,070.08. BEML, Kalpataru Power, Thermax, Carborundum, BHEL, Praj Industries closed higher.

The BSE Health Care Index was down 0.3% at 3,830.19. Cadila Health, Cipla, Lupin, Orchid Chemical, Novartis India closed lower.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,125.21 down 0.4%. Bajaj Auto, , Punj Tractors, Escorts, Tata Motors, Hero Honda, Ashok Leyland closed lower.

The BSE Metal Index closed at 12,211.10 up 1.5%. Tata Steel, Hind Zinc, JSW Steel, Sesa Goa, SAIL higher.

The BSE FMCG Index closed at 1,829.19 down 0.7%. United Spirits, Bata India, HUL, Colgate closed lower.

BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 8,111.54 down 0.7%. HPCL, Reliance Natura, BPCL, Reliance Petro, GAIL, ended in green

The BSE IT Index lost 0.7% at 4,921.06. Tech Mahindra, Mphasis, Satyam, I-Flex Solution, Financial Tech closed lower.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 12383.82 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 48073.22 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 5765.28 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 66222.32 crore.
