Asian indices extend losses; Nikkei down more than 2%

Asian indices dropped today, with Japanese shares lower as exporters such as Sony Corp. and Canon Inc. were hit by the yen's strength against the US dollar, while South Korean shares turned volatile after declining sharply Thursday.
Japan's Nikkei plunged 2.33% or 376.10 points at 15,772.39. Hong Kong's Hang Seng slipped 0.24% or 48.68 points at 20,623.71. Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted was up 0.41% or 33.90 points at 8,235.27. Singapore's Straits Times fell 1.31% or 41.17 points at 3,110.99. South Korea's Seoul Composite declined 0.92% or 15.52 points at 1,676.46.
