Asian indices fall sharply as Wall Street tanks

Asian indices fell sharply today following a sell-off on Wall Street, and Japanese exporters such as Canon Inc. and Toyota Motor Corp. also declined as the yen strengthened against the US dollar. Japan's Nikkei plunged 2.59% or 422.62 points at 15,864.87.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 2.29% or 533.94 points at 22,829.82. Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted tumbled 1.81% or 157.88 points at 8,569.67. Singapore's Straits Times declined 2.57% or 85.77 points at 3,257.23. South Korea's Seoul Composite slipped 1.81% or 33.16 points at 1,796.15.
