Asian indices trading mixed

Asian indices were mixed today after US stocks reacted to weak housing data overnight, with Japanese exporters such as Canon Inc. and Nissan Motor Co. hurt by a stronger yen, while South Korean shares advanced on shipbuilders such as STX Shipbuilding in volatile trading.

Japan's Nikkei was up 0.19% or 30.67 points at 16,332.06. Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 0.25% or 58.56 points at 23,519.17. Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted gained 0.35% or 30.93 points at 8,749.24. Singapore's Straits Times was down 0.36% or 12.16 points at 3,376.28. South Korea's Seoul Composite surged 1.26% or 22.69 points at 1,825.72.
