Markets today ended in green despite of the volatile trade. Sensex was up by 52 points at 14894. It swung nearly 200 points during the day. Nifty was up by 18 points at 4320. It swung nearly 50 points during the day. CNX Midcap Index was up 0.8% and BSE Small-cap Index was up 1%.
BSE IT Index held the market and was up 1.8%. Major gainers in this index were Satyam, up 3.1%, HCL Tech, up 3.2% and Infosys, up 1.2%. BSE Oil & Gas Index was up 1.5%. Major gainers were Reliance, up 2.8% and IPCL, up 1.9%. BSE Metal, FMCG Indices were up 1% each. BSE Bank Index was down 0.54%. Major losers were ICICI Bank, down 2.9% on RBI caution on plans of holding companies.
NSE Advance Decline ratio stood at 3:2. Total market turnover was at Rs 70718.52 crore vs Rs 65628.37 crore on Monday.
New Listing: KPR Mills listed on the bourses today. It closed at Rs 170 vs listing price of Rs 201 (Issue Price was Rs 225). In the currency market, Rupee depreciated by 29 bps at 41.13 (hits intra-day low of 41.1725). Yen was trading at 115.52/ $.
F&O Snapshot:
Nifty rollover is already at 43%. Nifty August Futures were at 15 point discount vs 5 point discount yesterday. Nifty September futures were at 41 point discount vs 25 point discount yesterday. Short rollover pressure pushed September series into major discount. Nifty futures added 68.5 lakh shares in September series while 6.6 lakh shares were added in August series. Most active stocks were TTML, Ashok Leyland, SAIL, S Kumars, and India Cement.
Rollovers was picked up smoothly in the banking space. Steel stocks were seeing good rollover as has been the case for last few series. Sugar stocks witnessed stronger than usual rollover.
