Sensex up 355.5 pts, Nifty up 106 pts, Infosys gained 4.7%

Markets surge with positive cues from new ECB norms and unchanged Fed rates. Sensex was up by 355.5 points and ended at 15288 while Nifty was up by 106 points and ended at 4462. CNX Midcap Index was up by 1.8% and BSE Small-cap Index was up by 1.7%. Mid-cap power & banking space gains the most. Stocks like PFC, Neyveli Lignite, JP Hydro, UBI, Dena Bank, Canara Bank gains in mid-cap space.

All BSE sectoral indices end in the green. BSE IT Index was up by 4%. The major gainers were Infosys, up 4.7%, TCS, up 3.9%, Satyam, up 3.5% and Wipro, up 3.7%. BSE Oil & Gas Index was up by 3.15%. The major gainers were RIL, up by 3.6% and ONGC, up by 2.17%. Index Gainers were HCL Tech, up by 5.95, HDFC, up by 5% and ACC, up by 3.8%. NSE Advance Decline ratio stood at 10:3. Total market turnover stood at Rs 56926.72 crore vs Rs 46670.7 crore on Tuesday. Rupee depreciated by 17 bps at 40.48 (hit intra-day high of 40.83).

F&O Snapshot:
Nifty futures discount was at 28 points (was 39 points discount yesterday). Nifty futures added 18 lakh shares in OI. Frontline technology stocks were propelled by huge cash buying as cost of carry was negative. Mid-cap banking stocks saw addition of long positions. Biggies like RIL, DLF, MTNL, SAIL, L&T saw short covering while Auto stocks like Tata Motors, M&M, TVS Motors also saw short covering.

Tech Space:
Infosys was up by 4.6%, added 2.1 lakh shares in OI (5 points discount, was 15 points in the morning)
Satyam was up by 3.8%, added 1.5 lakh shares in OI (2 point discount)
TCS, was up by 4.4%, cut 67000 shares in OI (9 points discount)
Wipro was up by 3%, added 7800 shares in OI (5 points discount)
Polaris was up by 12.5%, added 1.6 lakh shares in OI
MphasiS was up by 5.6%, cut 60000 shares in OI

Financial Space:
IDBI was up by 7.3%, added 56 lakh shares in OI
IndusInd Bank was up by 5%, added 2 lakh shares in OI
UBI was up by 4.5%, added 4.6 lakh shares in OI
Dena Bank was up by 4.7%, added 8.3 lakh shares in OI
Canara Bank, Indian Bank, Bank of India all sees addition of long positions with rising OI

Other Mid Caps:
Essar Oil was up by 8.2%, added 5.5 lakh shares in OI
Bombay Rayon was up by 8.2%, added 2 lakh shares in OI
Lanco was up by 6.2%, added 1.8 lakh shares in OI

Short Covering:
RIL was up by 3.3%, cut 7.8 lakh shares in OI
DLF was up by 2.1%, cut 5.6 lakh shares in OI
MTNL was up by 2.5%, cut 2.7 lakh shares in OI
SAIL was up by 3.8%, cut 2.5 lakh shares in OI
JP Hydro was up by 10%, cut 33 lakh shares in OI
