Thursday, September 13, 2007

Mehraj Maltoo, Hedge Fund Manager, Commerzbank said that the hedge fund industry is broadly looking positive and is going forward but he don't see significant redemptions across all hedge funds. He expects some flight to quality to more quality hedge funds.

About Asian hedge funds, he said that Asian hedge fund industry is primarily focused on the equities and believes that the Asian hedge funds may not see any significant problems. He said that India relies more on portfolio investment than China. Investors are keen to invest in Asia via hedge funds. Greater risk aversion could trigger fund reversals in India. He informed that around 200 hedge funds are focused on India.

He further said that he is concerned on Chinese markets as it is driven by the domestic forces but he is very bullish on India in the long-term as India is attractive for long-term investors. India remains good prospect for the Institutional investors as well.
