Markets recovered after opening in red

Sensex ended in the green at 15596.8; recovered nearly 230 points from days low while Nifty closed above 4500; recovered over 50 points from days low. CNX Midcap Index was up 0.445 while BSE Small-cap Index was up 1%. BSE Oil & Gas Index was up 1% and the BSE IT Index was down 1.9%. Rupee appreciated to 40.6225 level.
In Oil & Gas segment, RIL was up 1.16%, RPL was up 4.6%, BPCL was up 3.5%, HPCL was up 3.4% and IPCL was up 1.7%. The Index Gainers were ITC, up 3.9%, Ambuja Cements, up 3.2%, SAIL, up 2.35% and Ranbaxy, up 2.35%. NSE Advance Decline ratio stood at 6:5. Total market turnover stood at Rs 50287.17 crore vs Rs 53502.45 crore on Friday.
In currency market, rupee appreciated by 17 bps at 40.6225 (hits intra-day high of 40.59 and low of 40.77) while Yen depreciated by 66 bps at 113.7 (hits intra-day high of 112.68).
F&O Snapshot:
Nifty futures discount narrowed to 8 points vs 31 points on Friday. Nifty futures added 29.2 lakh shares in OI. Nifty futures turnover was at nearly 30% of total FNO turnover. Oil & Gas space was the strongest sector of the day with fresh longs/short covering seen through out. Financials and select Banks stocks also looked strong.
