Reliance Petroleum leads gainers in 'A' group

Mukesh Ambani-controlled Reliance Petroleum soared 11.60% to Rs 154.95 and it topped gainers in the BSE’s A group shares. Reportedly, there was a major fund buying in the scrip today (21 September 2007).
Sponge iron manufacturer Jindal Steel & Power had jumped 9.66% to Rs 5371.20. It was the second biggest gainer in the A group. Earlier some reports suggested that the company is planning to diversify into coal mining in overseas markets, coal and power trading and chartered air services.
Mining firm Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation jumped 8.56% to Rs 1090.75 and came third among top gainers in A group. Its net profit grew 380.1% to Rs 65.24 crore on 45.1% increase in sales to Rs 219.91 crore in Q1 June 2007 over Q1 June 2006.
The small-cap tractor maker Escorts moved up 7.58% to Rs 119.95 crore. It was the fourth biggest gainer in A group. It reported a net loss of Rs 6.24 crore in Q3 June 2007 as against net profit of Rs 1.57 crore in Q3 June 2006. Sales rose 7.73% to Rs 515.50 crore in Q3 June 2007 over Q3 June 2006.
KK Birla group firm Chambal Fertilisers & Chemicals rose 6% to Rs 53.85 and came fifth among top gainers in A group.
