Sensex up 25 pts at 16347; Nifty up 15 pts at 4747

Today markets ended firm amid choppy trade. Sensex ended up 25 points at 16347. It swung over 150 points during the day. Nifty ended up 15 points at 4747. It swung over nearly 40 points during the day. CNX Midcap Index was up 1% while BSE Small-cap Index ended flat. BSE Realty Index was up 6.85%. In this, Unitech was up 12.35%, DLF was up 5%, Indiabulls Real was up 9.5% while IVR Prime was up 7.1%. BSE Capital Goods Index was up 2% and BSE Metal Index was up 1.4%. BSE IT Index was down 2.24% on rupee breaking 40/$ mark. In this, Wipro was down 3%, Infosys was down 2.8% and TCS was down 2%.

NSE Advance Decline ratio stood at 5:7. Total market turnover was at Rs 80272.60 crore vs Rs 92568.94 crore on Wednesday.

Magnum Ventures listed today on the bourses. It closed at Rs 49.40 as against the listing price of Rs 37 (issue price Rs 30). Total volume on BSE and NSE of Magnum Ventures was nearly 6 crore shares (Floating stock at 1.76 crore shares).

In currency market, Rupee appreciated by 77 basis points at 39.89; hits intra-day high of 39.88 and low of 40.06. Rupee hits fresh 9-year high vs dollar. It appreciated beyond 40/$ for the first time since May 1998. Yen depreciated by 28 basis points at 115.55; hits intra-day high of 115.25 and low of 116.02.

In realty space, DLF, Unitech, Akruti, Purvankara are at new life high. The other notable stocks were:

In derivatives segment, Nifty futures traded flat vs 13 points premium on Wednesday. Nifty futures saw some fresh shorts. They added 21 lakh vs 24 lakh shares yesterday in OI. The total turnover was at nearly 30% of total FNO turnover. Realty space stands out as the sector of the day with huge turnover and OI build up seen. IT and Pharma were expectantly seeing fresh shorts. Sugars saw some fresh shorts after yesterdays huge run up. There were no major sectoral unwinding seen.
