Wednesday, October 3, 2007

DLF will build its biggest project on Bangalore's outskirts at a cost of Rs 60,000 crore. It will be thrice the size of DLF City in Gurgaon.

Knowledge city is set to take shape here. DLF has bagged the 9,000-acre project at Bidadi, 30 km from Bangalore. The project entails investment of Rs 60,000 crore and is the biggest by a private player.

Basavaraj Horatti, Karnataka Government Spokesperson said, “The tenders have been approved for the Bidadi project. The terms and conditions are that per acre the development charges will be Rs 57,50,000, and it should be completed in five years.”

Planned as a self-contained township, it will be developed on a walk-to-work theme and will have shopping malls, multiplexes, hotels and serviced apartments. The project will be a 50:50 joint venture between Dubai-based Limitless Holdings and DLF. California-based Berkley and design firm Calthorpe Associates will plan the project.

The township is likely to have a dedicated metro rail connection to Bangalore city. BMRDA is also considering an expressway to connect the township to the new international airport at Devanahalli.

The road to Mysore will now also be the road to a new Bangalore. Bidadi is on the Bangalore-Mysore expressway and the upcoming inter-city infrastructure corridor. And even though it's 60 kilometres from the new Devanhalli airport, it could soon become a city in its own right.
