Asian indices recover after a sharp fall

Asian indices have recovered after a sharp-sell off in the morning following weak global cues. Shanghai COmposite is leading the gainers, up more than 1.5%. Taiwan is up 0.55% to 8963, South Korea's Kospi is up 0.13%, Singapore's Straits Times is up 0.10%.

Among the losers are Hong Kong's Hang Seng, which is down 0.37% or 90 points and Japan's Nikkei, which is down 0.45% or 73 points. In Asian currency trading, the U.S. dollar was quoted at 115.24 yen, from 115.26 yen in late New York trading and 115.88 yen in Tokyo trading Wednesday.
