Market ends flat; but Sensex on a new high

The markets opened with bang but profit booking set in at the higher level and the Nifty closed flat and Sensex ended with marginal gains. But it was an all time high close for Sensex. The cues from Asia were not positive and even Europe opened in red. Selling pressure was seen in bank, FMCG, IT, oil & gas and cement stocks.Broader markets outperformed the benchmark indices. Auto and capital goods provided support at the lower levels. Midcaps like IVRCL, IFCI, RNRL, Gujarat Alkali, Sintex were buzzing during the day.

The turnover was huge despite starting the new series and 11.5 points was the discount for Nifty July futures.

Sensex was up 44.07 points or 0.30% at 14694.58, and the Nifty up 4.60 points or 0.11% at 4322.9.

About 1457 shares have advanced, 1069 shares declined, and 76 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 7,783.26 up 0.7%.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,591.35 up 1%.

The BSE FMCG Index closed at 1,824.00 down 0.3%. United Spirits, Godrej Consumer, Dabur India, P and G, Nestle closed in red.

The BSE Metal Index closed at 10,560.32 down 0.4%. Mah Seamless, SAIL, Hindalco, Shree Precoated were among the losers.

The BSE Health Care Index was up 1.2% at 3,849.59. Divis Labs, Nicholas Pirama, Wockhardt, Biocon, Pfizer closed higher.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1.1% at 12,429.15. Punj Lloyd, Areva T&D, Crompton Greave, Kirloskar Oil, Bharat Elec, Reliance Infra ended higher.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,791.06 up 1.1%. Maruti Udyog, Exide Industrie, Escorts, Tata Motors, Mah and Mah were among the gainers

The BSE IT Index closed at 4,867.27 down 0.1%. Financial Tech, HCL Tech, TCS, Wipro, I-Flex Solution ended weak.

The BSE Bankex was down 0.2% at 7,990.48. Bank of India, PNB, Bank of Baroda, Kotak Mahindra, ICICI Bank closed lower.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 7,597.30 down 0.4%. Reliance and ONGC closed in red

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 9603.37 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 34061.14 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4308.65 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 47973.16 crore.
