Asian indices trading mixed

Japanese indices declined today on weakness in real- estate stocks such as Mitsui Fudosan Co. and commodity traders such as Marubeni, while South Korean shares gained on Korea Exchange Bank after HSBC Holdings offered to buy a majority stake.
Japan's Nikkei plunged 0.42% or 70.15 points at 16,454.78. Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted declined 0.62% or 55.83 points at 8,924.13. Singapore's Straits Times was flat at 3,386.62. South Korea's Seoul Composite was flat at 1,882.03. However, Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.14% or 33.37 points at 23,937.46.
